My name is Lisa Meyer and I have been the reading specialist at Chapel Hill since 1990. I work with students who have been identified by parents and/or teachers as needing extra reading instruction. This may be in the areas of phonemic awareness, oral fluency, reading comprehension, and/or word analysis skills.

Typically, I work with students one on one. Each student comes to my room twice a week for thirty-minute sessions. I work closely with teachers in scheduling each student so they do not miss too much classroom instruction time.

I am so blessed to be at Chapel Hill Christian School! I enjoy working with students, parents, teachers, and the administration toward a common goal.
Goals Of The Library Program

Our mission in addition to helping every student in my program read better is also to have them gain confidence in themselves as readers, to enjoy reading, and to choose to spend time reading.

Reading Program Goals for Grades K-3

  • Work on learning basic sight words
  • Work on improving oral fluency
  • Work on phonemic awareness as needed
  • Work on phonics and word analysis skills
  • Work on reading comprehension
Reading Program Goals for Grades 4-6

  • Work on improving oral fluency and silent reading rate
  • Work on reading comprehension
  • Often use class textbooks (reading, science, social studies) to learn reading strategies
Special Projects For Students

The students will be involved in a Reading Program in which they will perform for the school. They will practice a piece (story, poem, Bible verses) that they will read during the program. This is often done at Christmas, but may be done in the spring as an Easter Program as well.
